                                   Bishops' Appeal - Myanmar Earthquake

Following the devastating earthquake last Friday (28th March) in South East Asia in which over two thousand lives have been lost, the Bishops’ Appeal Advisory Committee is sending emergency assistance of €10,000 (currently equivalent to £8,400) to Christian Aid’s appeal for Myanmar. During 2021, the Church of Ireland Bishops’ Appeal released funds to support Covid relief efforts in India and also in Haiti following a devastating earthquake.  And the crisis in Ukraine has displaced numerous refugees in need of support by relief agencies and the Bishops' Appeal seeks urgent donations to go towards such humanitarian work. Individuals and parishes are invited to contribute to support these and other efforts.   Taxpayers in the U.K. can give more help by “Gift Aiding” donations.
Envelopes are available in the porch.

Please note that our archive links (services, weddings,

Please note - in the event that a technical problem prevents a live transmission, we shall endeavour to upload a recording by five o'clock the same day.

The Dean Writes:

Dear Parishioners and Friends all around the world,

Easter is much more than one day, it is a season and runs to the day of Pentecost, Sunday the 8th of June. As we reflect
on the joyous celebration of Easter, we are reminded of the profound themes of hope, love and renewal that resonate
deeply within our faith. Easter symbolises the triumph of life over death, light over darkness and love over despair. Just as
the resurrection of Christ brings us hope, it calls us to share that hope with others, spreading love and kindness in a world often fraught with challenges.

In this season of renewal, we also find ourselves looking forward to commemorate VE Day, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for peace and freedom. As we honour the courage of those who fought for a better future, let us embrace the spirit of reconciliation and unity. The message of peace is as vital today as it was then, urging us to foster understanding and compassion in our communities May this Easter season inspire us to be beacons of hope, actively working to build bridges of love and peace around us. Let us carry the message of the resurrection into our daily lives, serving as instruments of healing and harmony in a world that longs for connection.

As we gather in worship and community, may the joy of Easter fill our hearts, and may we extend that joy to all we encounter. Together let us cultivate a spirit of peace that honours both the past and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

There is a spirit in the air
                                                                                              telling Christians everywhere,
praise the love that Christ revealed,
                                                                                             living, working in our world.

(Hymn 314)
Yours very sincerely

Apologies. Unfortunately, a technical problem during the first half of the service meant that the transmission halted spontaneously. However, it was recorded in full and can be viewed by clicking on the picture above.

The second half of the service in St Michael's, though streamed, was unfortunately not recorded.

There is additional footage in this video showing clergy, guests and choir crossing the street from Saint Michael's, the lighting of the beacon and the combined pipe bands.
Just click on each picture to view
the in-cathedral proceedings live.
"Beating Retreat" is NOT streamed.
Mothers’ Union in Ireland is celebrating 125 years in existence and this year there was a Festival Service in place of the usual Area Service. This took place in our cathedral Friday 2nd May. To view the recording, click on the Mothers' Union logo above.
