St. Macartin's Cathedral
Cathedral Bake-off
November 2013
The Church of Ireland - part of the Anglican Communion

Modeled on the famous TV series, nine amateur bakers iced and decorated the cakes they had made at home in a light hearted competition in the cathedral hall. The event was organised by Hazel Dineen as part of the fund-raising effort to revamp the hall and this one realised over £600. It was hosted by Hazel and by Caroline Shaw.
The winner - Stephen Richmond with his walnut and courgette (yes - courgette!) cake. It may sound unlikely but it tasted delightful.
The cake was auctioned off and won by Willie Holmes,  who subsequently presented it to the operating theatre staff of the South West Acute Hospital. There it performed a rapid disappearing trick!
Second prize winner was Alan Elliott who took a break from fighting fires to produce this very attractive wintry themed cake.
Our new curate, Rev. Rob Clements who couldn't resist making a cake with an ecclesiastical theme!
Claire Holmes - and a mushroom. Bought by Hazel Dineen it also went to the theatre coffee room where it met the same fate as Stephen's cake.
Claire's daughter, Marie-Claire with her zebra-themed cake.
Ewan Richmond with a strawberry packed gateau - low calorie, of course!
Rachel Elliott - pretty cake - bet it didn't last long!
Sally Redman keeping Gideon Clements (son of Rev. Rob) well away from her seasonal creation!
Shirley Eames and Noah's ark.
The hosts - Hazel Dineen and Caroline Shaw
It was a great social occasion.
Where there is cake, the Dean is never far away. "More tea, Vicar?" Local banker Jenifer Johnston looked after the proceeds.
There was even a spot where children could decorate cupcakes.
Tea, buns and a chat - what more could a lady want?
